Fedato wins Jim Wright Sr. golf tournament

The Annual Jim Wright Sr. Men’s Open was held on July 4 and 5.

On Saturday golfers battled through the hot weather to post some good scores. Darrell Coldwell and Jef Fedato both posted 75s to take a three-shot lead into Sunday over Paul Hangle’s and Bruce Evans’ nice rounds of 78.

In the B-Flight, Oliver Williams shot 85 to take the lead into Sunday over Gene Ostrander's 89 and David Adolph's 91. On Sunday Gene Ostrander fired a 43 on the front nine to Oliver's 48 to take a one-shot lead into the back nine.  Oliver played a solid back nine to build up a two-shot lead with three holes to play. Gene made a birdie on hole 16 to Oliver's bogey and both golfers were tied with two holes to play, but Oliver continued his solid play to earn the B-flight Title.

In the A-flight  Darrell got off to a blazing start making four birdies in the first eight holes, but a double bogey on hole 9 derailed his momentum, but his front nine score of 35 to Jef's 37 gave Darrell a two-shot lead going into the back nine.  Jef made birdie on #12 to cut the lead to one shot. On hole 14 Darrell missed the green in a bad spot and after some short game blunders made his second double bogey of the round.

Jef made a good par and walked off the green with the lead. Jef's big drive and good chip set up an easy birdie on hole 15 to take a two-shot lead. Both golfers missed their birdie efforts on 16; the lead was still two shots.

On hole 17 after both players hit good drives, Jef’s approach shot missed the green, leaving an opening for Darrell who hit it to seven feet to set up a good birdie chance. Not to be rattled, Jef chipped it in to make birdie, Darrell just missed his putt and Jef walked up to the 18th tee with a comfortable three-shot lead.

Jef finished the round off in style with a routine par to shoot a back nine two

-under par score of 33 and a solid round of 70 to win the title. Jef also won this title back in 2012, which snapped Darrell's long winning streak. This time, Jef snapped Darrell streak at 5 tourney wins in a row.  Perhaps Jef will start a streak of his own or will Darrell get back to his winning ways? Time will tell.

Brett Greenman had a great weekend with two really good rounds to win the Overall Low Net Title. Charlie Waters had a fantastic Sunday, almost shooting his age to claim the Low Net A-flight title, and Marv Ely’s great Sunday round earned him the Low Net B-flight title.
