To the Editor,
First time writing in, actually first time standing up and being counted in a community I have called home for the past six years.
I did get behind and had great family support from afar voting for the new playground at the REC Centre, even though I have no children here.
I want to give credit to the Lillooet News for spelling it out loud and clear about the future of our wonderful little “local” newspaper.
Your promo of a free newspaper in everyone’s mailbox worked. After reading your words and the words of Legion President Art Buckmaster of a dwindling membership at our very own Lillooet Branch 66, it really makes one think. “Do I want our local Legion and newspaper? I think so.”
So I have my form filled out to become an official Legion member. I did take the reduced rate deal for the newspaper, but also bought a second subscription for my mother on the island. When she comes to visit, she always asks, “Do you have your local paper?”
So my free Lillooet newspaper of Nov. 7 cost me $143 of well-spent money giving back to a community that has given me so much.
