Police attended at the scene after receiving a report of a possible intoxicated unresponsive male under the bridge. Police and Lillooet Ambulance paramedics determined Paul was dead at the scene. The Mounties said Paul appeared to have fallen or jumped from the bridge deck some 25 metres above the river.

Paul's next-of-kin were notified by Lillooet RCMP, with the assistance of the Stl'atl'imx Tribal Police.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed in Kamloops.

Lillooet RCMP say it appears from preliminary findings that foul play is not suspected.
