article continues below

The CRTC will hold hearings on mobile wireless services next week, starting on Tuesday. The regulator will hear arguments from various stakeholders regarding the wholesale rates charged by the largest telecom companies to smaller players who access their existing networks.

Inflation numbers

Statistics Canada will release its consumer price index for January on Wednesday. The agency said in its previous report that the annual pace of inflation held steady in December as higher energy prices were offset in part by slower growth in the price of fresh vegetables.

Teck earnings

Teck Resources Ltd. will release Q4 results on Friday. The company is awaiting a federal decision on whether to green light its $20.6-billion Frontier mining project in northern Alberta, which is expected to create an estimated 7,000 construction jobs, 2,500 operating jobs and about $12 billion in federal income and capital taxes.

RBC update

Royal Bank of Canada will hold a conference call to discuss its Q1 results on Friday. The bank said in December that it expects to face a challenging environment in the coming year amid uncertainty about where interest rates are headed, but believes it's well-prepared to gain market share.

Canfor earnings

Canfor Corp. will hold a joint conference call with Canfor Pulp Products Inc. to discuss their fourth quarter 2019 financial and operating results on Friday. Shares in both companies have suffered over the past year as the forestry industry has suffered at the hands of wildfires, beetle infestations, trade disputes and rail shutdowns.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Feb. 16, 2020.
