SURREY, B.C. — British Columbia's police watchdog is investigating a shooting involving police officers in Surrey.
The RCMP says officers were called just after 4 a.m. on Wednesday about a man who was believed to be armed with a machete and was chasing another male.
In a news release, the Mounties says officers had an "interaction" with a man believed to be the suspect and then "fired their service pistols."
Police say the man was in hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries.
No one else was injured in the incident.
The RCMP say it has notified the Independent Investigation Office about the shooting and it is investigating the incident.
The Mounties continue to investigate the initial complaint about the man with a machete.
The civilian oversight agency examines all officer-related incidents of serious harm or death, regardless of whether there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
