Police Blotter

Bear incidents on the increase

SEPT. 1

Mischief to a vehicle

Lillooet RCMP responded to a report of mischief to a vehicle in the 700-block of Main Street. An unknown person smashed the passenger side window out of the vehicle with what appears to be a piece of wood found in the area. If you have any information that would assist in this investigation, please call the Lillooet RCMP and refer to police file number 2012-1664.

Bear-related incidents

Lillooet RCMP responded to several bear-related incidents over the past week, including everything from a bear hanging around in yards to accidents and even mischief complaints. Police ask that everyone do their part to ensure that garbage is picked up and stored in an appropriate bear proof container.

Please use caution when traveling on local roads as bears are doing all they can at the moment to pack on much-needed fat reserves to ensure they make it through the winter. We live in an area that is rich in wildlife and slowing down on the roads often avoids collisions with wildlife that can cause injury or death to the animals or to people.

SEPT. 2

Highway 99 brush fire

Lillooet RCMP, Lillooet Fire Department and Forestry staff attended a small brush fire approximately seven kilometres north of Lillooet off Highway 99. The fire was quickly brought under control by the attending fire fighters, most likely saving a residence in the area. Please ensure that if you observe a fire in the Lillooet area that you call emergency services immediately, as a quick response is instrumental in fighting fire in terrain such as that in and around Lillooet.

SEPT. 3

Highway 40 crash causes minor injuries

Lillooet RCMP responded to a report of a single-vehicle accident approximately 16 kilometres from Lillooet on Highway 40. The lone occupant of the vehicle was lucky to have escaped with only minor injuries as the vehicle she was driving came to rest on a large boulder, which prevented it from a steep drop to the valley bottom below. It is believed the driver was distracted by something in her vehicle causing her to lose focus for a short time.

SEPT. 5

 Missing any costume jewelry?

A large collection of what could be described as costume jewelry was turned into the Lillooet RCMP. If you are missing items of this nature, please contact Cpl. MacMillan at the Lillooet RCMP to view and claim the items.

SEPT. 6

Assault causes serious facial injuries

Lillooet RCMP and Tribal Police attended U2 Trailer Park to assist with a report of an assault on one of the residents. A male who had sustained serious facial injuries as a result of an assault from earlier in the day was located in the area. The matter is still under investigation. If you have any information that would assist in this investigation, please contact the local Tribal Police office.

SEPT. 7

Patrols seek injured bear

At 12:50 a.m. Lillooet RCMP and Stl’atl’imx Tribal Police officers attended an injury accident between a vehicle and a bear on Scotchman Road. Occupants of the vehicle were injured, as was the bear. The matter is still under investigation as there is an injured bear in the area. If you see the bear do not approach and call police or Lillooet Conservation immediately. The injured bear has been seen in the area, however patrols in the area have been negative thus far.
