Court Report

Impaired driver gets 30 days in jail

Provincial Court was held in Lillooet on Friday, Aug. 10.

Kelsey C. Alec received a $500 fine and was ordered to pay a $75 Victim Surcharge after being convicted of careless storage of a firearm.

Nelson R Aleck was fined $250 and ordered to pay a $37 Victim Surcharge after his conviction for the Motor Vehicle Act offence of driving without due care and attention.

Joseph P. Brooks of Lytton was ordered to pay a $1,500 fine and a $225 Victim Surcharge and was prohibited driving for one year after his conviction on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol limit exceeded .08.

Barry F. Menhinick of Gold Bridge was sentenced to 30 days in jail, ordered to a pay a $50 Victim Surcharge and prohibited from driving for three years after his Criminal Code conviction for operating a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol limit exceeded .08.

Menhinick was also fined $500 and ordered to pay a $75 Victim Surcharge after he was convicted of the Motor Vehicle Act offence of driving while he was prohibited from driving by a court order.

He was sentenced to 14 days in jail, ordered to pay a $400 fine and a $45 Victim Surcharge when he was found guilty under the Motor Vehicle Act for a second driving while prohibited offence.

Sheldon Raphael of Lytton was ordered to pay a $1,250 fine and a $188 Victim Surcharge after he was convicted of operating a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol limit exceeded .08. He was also prohibited from driving for one year.

Alvin L. Smith was given a suspended sentence and placed on probation for one year with conditions after pleading guilty on two counts of failing or refusing to comply with a probation order.
