Domestic Assault
Lillooet RCMP received a call of a domestic assault on Victoria St. After members investigated the incident, a male was arrested for assault and remanded in custody for court in Kamloops.
JULY 17
Single Vehicle Accident
BC Ambulance and RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle gone off-road on Highway 12 near Fountain Valley Road. The vehicle was headed towards Lillooet when a dog in the vehicle distracted the driver. The vehicle hit the embankment on the right side of the road; the driver overcorrected and went off-road left. Luckily, the ditch and landscape beyond were in a "V" shape and kept the vehicle from overturning. The driver had minor injuries. The driver was charged with driving without due care and no valid driver's licence. The vehicle was impounded for seven days.
JULY 18
Fraud letter
A local senior citizen received a fraudulent letter asking the senior to participate in a "test" of Western Union's operations. The person was asked to cash the attached cheque, keep $110 for themselves as "payment for services," and then send the remaining money to a specific receiver through Western Union. Of course, the cheque would come back as a fake later, the person's bank will deduct the money from their account and they are out the money. Police remind people to always be leery of “free” cheques and call the police or bank to investigate.
JULY 19
Mining equipment stolen
A theft occurred off Highway 12 on a mining claim near Halfway Ranch sometime before July 3. A green 2000 Grizzly 600 ATV, a Honda water pump and a Honda EZ3500 generator were stolen from a trailer on the property. Police are asking the public to call the Lillooet RCMP non-emergency number if they have information regarding this theft.
JULY 21
Single Vehicle Accident
RCMP, Tribal Police, Lillooet Rescue and BC Ambulance responded to a single vehicle accident on Highway 99 North near 12 Mile. The older driver was northbound when his tire blew, dragging him into the oncoming lane. Two vehicles were in that lane and the driver managed to pull the vehicle back into his lane briefly before a head-on collision occurred. After the vehicles cleared, the damaged wheel dragged the vehicle into the ditch on the left side of the road. The vehicle came to rest at a steep angle but did not overturn. The driver was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries,
JULY 22
Uneventful festival
Apricot Festival was enjoyed by young and old and from the police standpoint, was relatively uneventful. Nine people were arrested for intoxication in public or causing a disturbance and charged accordingly.
