To the Editor,
It’s called “projection” in psychological terms. Chris O’Connor, in his letter to the Editor (BRLN July 4, 2012), spews out unjustified, unfounded, and undeserved malice. He is the very “soul-destroying, community-destroying hater” he accuses others of being.
I am one of the people he accuses; I feel I must answer this unadulterated horse-pucky since I hear people say, “I read it in the paper,” or “I read it in the District Newsletter, so it must be true!” There have been many articles and letters printed in your paper (and the DoL newsletter) by “the powers-that-be” and by people “aligned” with them, like Chris O’Connor, that are unsubstantiated, and often, in my opinion, calculated to mislead the public.
The use of names, even solely surnames, in connection with unsubstantiated accusations has never been allowed by your paper when it comes to those of us often in disagreement with the DoL and its actions. In fact, many substantiated and documented statements (found directly on the DoL website, and its documents) by members of the LRA or others, your paper has refused to publish. Where is the equality in that? And why has this “Loud-mouth from Lytton” been allowed to cast aspersion upon members of our community who care enough to speak up?
Any “outsider” has a right to state their opinions….but what about when the “outsider” has no facts to back up what he says, but merely parrots rhetoric and innuendo. O’Connor said he was asked to give his opinion….by whom? And, as importantly, why?
We taxpayers here in our community have a right to criticize the people who were elected to “represent” us; especially if they fall short or totally disregard campaign promises or make decisions that are so totally against common sense…like the DoL Water Source Replacement Plan, that will plunge our community into unprecedented debt, and lose us our proven historic water sources: Dickey and Town Creeks.
Kindest Regards,
Kate Maxon
