Local golfing history was made at the 18th annual Jim Wright Sr. Memorial Men’s Open held on July 7 and 8.
Despite the hot weather, 22 golfers teed it up for this year’s event. Jeff Fedato and DJ Adolph shot 74's on Saturday, one better than Darrell Coldwell's 75.
Sunday's round saw many lead changes throughout the day but with a birdie on hole 17, Fedato took a one shot lead over Coldwell into the last hole. After a good drive and second shot, Coldwell left himself a 12-foot birdie putt to force a playoff, but was unable to roll it in and when Fedato knocked in his par putt for the victory, Coldwell's long winning steak was over!
Both golfers carded 73's for Sunday’s round. Darrell Coldwell had won 24 straight men’s tournaments on his home course and was seeking his 13th straight Jim Wright title. Coldwell’s last defeat was September 2002!
Jim McKay played some great golf to claim the Overall Low Net for the tournament, David Adolph was top dog in the B-flight and Paul Hangle (missing from photo) earned low net honors in the A flight and Marv Ely low net honors in the B flight.
