Lytton RCMP Blotter

Police respond to cougar complaints

On June 6, Lytton RCMP received a complaint regarding possible possession of stolen property. The complainant advised that a vehicle and trailer had driven by them on South Spencer Road, and they believed the trailer and contents belonged to them. Police attended and located the vehicle.  Both occupants were arrested and charged after it was confirmed they were in possession of stolen property. One of the persons charged was also found to be in possession of Methamphetamine, and was charged accordingly.

On June 10, RCMP received a complaint of a collision on Highway 12.  Members attended and located a 2012 Ford pickup approximately 100 metres down an embankment. Upon approaching the vehicle, it was found to be running, and it was later confirmed that a rock was on the accelerator. Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen from Ashcroft. Various exhibits were located and forwarded to Forensic Identification Services for evaluation.

On June 13, Lytton RCMP received a Break and Enter complaint. Members learned the Second Hand Store, as well as a separate residence belonging to the same complainant, had been broken into sometime over the previous three months. Members attended and conducted a thorough investigation of the scene. The store, and other outbuildings were ransacked and various items were missing. The separate residence was in the process of being renovated, and therefore only tools were missing.  Forensic Identification Services out of Kamloops were asked to attend and collect evidence. This investigation is ongoing.

On June 13, police attended Skihist Provincial Park for a report of found property.  Members were shown a small dirtbike.  If anyone has any information regarding the ownership of this dirtbike, please contact Lytton RCMP.

On June 14, an anonymous caller reported a possible Impaired driver on the Trans Canada Highway. Members attended and located the suspect vehicle.  They were pleased to find the driver of this vehicle was sober.

***

On June 14, RCMP received a Mischief to Vehicle complaint. The complainant advised that she left her vehicle near the Spur overnight due to the Ferry being out of service. When she returned in the morning the window of the van's sliding door was destroyed.

***

On June 15, a Conservation Officer requested assistance from the Lytton RCMP. A pair of cougars was reported to be hanging around the Spences Bridge area. The Cougars had numerous run-ins with residents and their pets over the previous few weeks. Members attended and conducted patrols. Investigation revealed that a resident had a close encounter with one of the cougars when it had attacked one of his dogs.  The man kicked the cougar which caused it to drop the dog.

On June 16, a Spences Bridge resident contacted the Lytton RCMP to advise that one of the above noted Cougars was lying in their backyard.  Members contacted Conservation, who were unable to attend. It appeared as though the cougar was sick or starving and it was put down by the officers.
