Dine and dash from Cookhouse
A report was received that three females ran out of the Cookhouse restaurant without paying for their meals. Police attended and investigated. The three female youths were identified and after returning to the café and apologizing to the restaurant owners, they will be paying restitution for the meals.
Why did the power line cross the road?
Sounds like the beginning of a good joke, but it was no joking matter when a report of power lines down across Highway 99 North was received. BC Hydro, the Lillooet Fire Dept. and RCMP attended the scene. Traffic control was set up and Hydro crews worked quickly to repair the lines. The fire department stayed in attendance, but thankfully was not needed to extinguish anything.
JUNE 17
Vehicle tries to open drive-thru at Barton Insurance
RCMP were called to a single vehicle accident on Main Street after an unsecured vehicle parked across from Barton Insurance rolled across the street and struck the building wall. Police remind motorists to set their parking brake and turn their vehicle wheels into the curb on that area of Main Street because of the slant of the road. The vehicle owner received an $81 violation ticket for an unsecured vehicle.
JUNE 18
Single vehicle rollover on Highway 99 North
Lillooet RCMP, BC Ambulance and Lillooet Rescue responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover at the lime plant on Highway 99 North. The driver of the vehicle was conscious and was able to advise police that he had tried to avoid a deer, which jumped out in front of his vehicle. After the vehicle went off the road to the right, the driver tried to correct and veered across the highway, flipping several times. The driver was wearing his seatbelt and received only minor injuries. Without his seatbelt, he would almost certainly have been thrown from the vehicle and the results would have been much more serious.
JUNE 21
Injured motorcyclist airlifted to Kamloops
BC Air Ambulance, Squamish Search and Rescue’s helicopter and Lillooet RCMP responded to an emergency beacon, which was activated in the Bralorne-Gold Bridge area. It was activated when a man from Vernon fell of his motorcycle and sustained leg injuries. He was located past Mud Lake. The air ambulance took him to Kamloops Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Police remind people to be extra careful when enjoying the outdoors and to take precautions (emergency beacons, first aid kits, advising family/friends of destination and return date, etc.) in case of an emergency.
JUNE 22
Stolen vehicle recovered in Kamloops
Police received a report that a vehicle had been stolen in Lillooet overnight on June 21-22. The vehicle was located in Kamloops where RCMP had attempted to stop it on the morning of June 22. The driver apparently jumped out of the moving vehicle to avoid capture and a lone passenger was arrested. The vehicle was recovered and arrangements were made to have the owner take it home. Kamloops RCMP continue to investigate in an effort to identify the driver.
JUNE 24
SLRD issues Evacuation Notice
An evacuation notice was issued by the SLRD for the Tyaughton Lake Rd. area due to mud slides and severe rains. Residents made the decision to stay after discussing the matter with police and indicating they had an escape plan if necessary. Other residences were unoccupied. SLRD personnel said they would attend the area the next day to assess the situation.
Street fight lands two in jail
RCMP attended a report of four people fighting and yelling on Moha Rd. After arriving on scene and speaking with those involved, one person was arrested for disturbing the peace and another for breaching the alcohol conditions of a court order.
Ambulance call for assistance leads to arrest
BC Ambulance was called to check a male in the 1100 block of Main St. and asked RCMP to attend. A man was found to be extremely intoxicated and arguing with another person. He was on conditions not be in contact with the other person and to abstain from consumption of alcohol outside his residence. He was arrested and remanded for court in Kamloops.
JUNE 27
Male arrested for aggravated assault
RCMP responded to reports of a female and male screaming at nearby property. Police found the female had been severely assaulted by a male who fled the scene on foot. The injured woman was taken to Lillooet Hospital for treatment. The male was located a few days later, arrested for aggravated assault and remanded for court in Kamloops.
