Whistler's Chaddock wins national road cycling title

Whistler's Ben Chaddock, centre, celebrates his national championship on the podium earlier today in Lac Megantic, Quebec.

Whistler's Ben Chaddock was on top of the podium in the Canadian National Criterium Championships in Lac Megantic, Que. today (Sunday, June 24).

The 25-year-old Team Exergy rider finished the 42 kilometre elite men's race in 56 minutes and 13 seconds, edging out Alberta's Cody Canning, who placed second. Nic Hamilton of B.C. came in third.

Fellow Team Exergy rider Rhae-Christie Shaw of Ontario took the elite women's 32 km title with a time of 47 minutes, 17 seconds, with B.C. rider Annie Ewart coming second and Manitoba's Karlee Gendron in third place.

Chaddock's win comes on the heels of two podium finishes in the USA Cycling National Criterium Calendar in May.
