District is being fiscally irresponsible

To the Editor,

Please print this copy of a letter to the Mayor and Council, District of Lillooet.

Mayor and Councillors:

How many residents of this community have had a raise lately?

Who dictates that DoL personnel require a raise? Why, in this terrible economy, would you even say a raise was necessary? Just because we have a bunch of self-serving people in Victoria who gave themselves a raise, does it mean that we need the same in our community? Come on…be responsible to the local taxpayer.

My wife is a CUPE member. She just had a raise…0 per cent, 0 per cent, 0 per cent for the term of the next contract. Myself, I have not raised my rates, even though my total costs have skyrocketed! I feel that I am being fiscally responsible. I do not feel that the DoL is being the same.

I feel an explanation is due to every person who is a taxpayer in this community and I also feel this explanation should tell us who is responsible.

Sincerely,

K. R. Ness
