To the Editor,
Outrageous. I believe the District of Lillooet’s ad concerning the June 30, 2012 deadline for installation of water meters is outrageous. I asked a District councillor yesterday if the council members all had their meters safely installed and so now it is OK to set a deadline and declare, “Every Man and Woman and Child for Themselves!”
The councillor replied they had theirs installed, “Corix just came along and did our whole street.”
Well, I also live on a street, and Corix has not even contacted me. So now it is somehow my responsibility to make sure I successfully get over the June 30 finish line to avoid a “significant fee.” As I understand it, Corix has a contract with the DoL to install the meters. If Corix does not complete those installations by June 30 because of its own omissions, that is Corix’s accountability to the DoL.
If I somehow frustrated Corix’s ability to install my meter, I will be glad to be accountable for missing the deadline. But I have not frustrated Corix’s ability to perform their responsibilities. I have just waited to be contacted. Yet, the DoL’s Apr. 18 ad somehow suggests that the District has no accountability, and the District’s contractor has no accountability.
It is every individual resident’s personal responsibility to ensure Corix does its job before June 30 – or you will pay a late penalty. Outrageous.
I suggest the DoL work with their contractor and undertake some proper project management to ensure they meet their self-imposed deadline, and leave me out of it.
