In a shocking decision, Mayor Ted Anchor and Councillor Kevin Taylor have resigned from District of Lillooet Council, effective immediately.
The two political allies personally delivered their letters of resignation to Chief Administrative Officer Grant Loyer this afternoon.
In a follow-up statement to the News, former mayor Anchor said, “After receiving advice, I have submitted a letter of resignation from the office as mayor on Jan. 5, 2012. I find myself in a very tenuous position and have no other alternative but to resign.” He said he leaves public office with his credibility and integrity “still intact.”
In his brief statement, former councillor Taylor said he was resigning with regret because he felt his principles were being compromised.
Their resignations came exactly one month after they were sworn in on Dec. 5.
Acting Mayor Wendy Parker will continue to serve in that capacity for the next two months.
A by-election will be called to elect a new mayor and councillor.
The News will be updating this story on our website in the coming days. For complete coverage, including the full texts of the statements by Anchor and Taylor, please see the Jan. 11 print edition of the News.
