Contemporary Christianity has made its God in man’s warped image. A “god” relevant to culture, and user friendly: a designer god. More like a feel-good god, a health-and-wealth, name-it-and-claim-it, crash-in-despair god.
Where is Jesus in all of that mess? Modern Christianity is turning into a religion that worships gods and idols of its own making.
Kick the real Jesus out the door, toss Him out of His church and replace Him with as many golden calves as you wish, and still call it Christianity. Come and go as you will; He is your friend to the end! WHAT???
When you look at the colours in the Christian faith, if you do not see red, if you do not see the shed blood that cleanses us of all unrighteousness, if you do not hear about character, perseverance, submission, if you rarely hear about our Sovereign God over all things, even our pain, our suffering, our sins: you have not heard the Gospel and you have not heard about Jesus.
You are not seeing an all-knowing, gracious, loving Father.
What you hear instead is a cacophony of the cries and whimpers of entitlement. “I need, I deserve, I want, I got to have, and you owe me, God! You better gimme it or else I am out of here! You are bad news and your people are the same.”
And so we accept a substandard Christian faith as normal. We experience a dysfunctional Christian life, being satisfied with yesterday’s food.
We end up living on the strength of self, sowing to self and grasping after the wind. We need to renew some clear steps to spur one another to keep our commitment to Jesus and His church.
Throughout the New Testament, we learn about the centrality of Christ to His churches, how He is keenly aware of what is going on in His churches.
We notice that He takes special interest in and cares for His churches. That He is not aloof and removed, but intimate and close. He never moves away and He never departs. We are the one that are fickle; He is faithful to the end!
He is our creator; we adore Him.
He is our redeemer; we boundlessly trust Him.
He is our king; we obey Him.
He is our judge; we fear him.
He is our master; we submit to Him.
He is our Saviour; we praise Him.
As a little infant, we feel a love for Him as to a child; as an older brother, we feel sisterly and brotherly love towards Him; as our spiritual bridegroom, our hearts are passionately devoted to Him.
There is no kind of affection possible in the human heart that Jesus should not receive. Now we love our precious Lord in all these relationships.
There is no one in the universe, to a divinely enlightened mind, as lovable as our blessed Saviour.
