Ads forget local services

Dear Editor,

I recently got back from a great holiday and returned to a nice pile of mail to sort through whilst drinking a cup of tea.

I was happy to peruse the community directory, seeing what all was being offered here in our great town. However, upon reading the full-page ad with the muddy girl on it, I was shocked and dismayed at the caption: “There's no Spa Days in Lillooet.”

Hello? I can sort of see how an outside agency who no doubt wrote this could miss the pretty pink house called the Lillooet Wellness Centre on Main Street, if they blinked a lot during their drive-by.

It happens, I guess. But how in the heck did the Lillooet Powers That Be who proofread the ad, and I assume approved it, miss that?

Forgot that one of the members of the Lillooet Chamber of Commerce proudly offers spa services? Then, I read further on: “Leave...the Latte behind” - OUCH!

Did all those people also miss the Garden Patch Cafe right beside the wellness centre? Their lattes are one of my favourite things in town! Whoopsie!

I think a paid-for, full-page, ad in whatever other publications the muddy girl ad goes into, with both those businesses highlighted, is in order.

How about changing the ad copy? Let's support local businesses trying to make a go of it in this beautifully rugged town of ours. It's hard times as it is!

Why not promote the fact that one can go to the sauna and get a massage after sipping a latte, following the "xtreme" adventure? A facial might be nice after all that muddy sweating, too! Big economic OOPS I think.
