Todd Butler was born in Alberta and now lives in B.C. He has spent 35 years as a professional musician.
Over the years, Butler has performed at many festivals, in particular, the huge Montreal International Jazz Festival and the popular Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival. He has also played at the Filberg Festival with Valdy.
He is a brilliant guitarist. He is a guitar instructor (flatpicking and soloing) at the Sorrento Bluegrass Workshop amongst other places.
Butler has worked extensively with the CBC. He was guest 11 times on Lorne Elliott’s “Madly Off in All Directions” and hosted the show in five locations. (They must have something in common!)
He’s been a participant in Canada Reads and the CBC’s Winnipeg Comedy Festival Gala, to name a few.
He has six CDs to his credit and has produced others. His two most popular are: Dobro and Guitar (2003) and The Idle Canadian (2006).
More recently, Butler was master of ceremonies for the torch celebration in Courtenay on Day 4 of the Olympic torch relay, Nov. 2. He also wrote the songs and directed the music for ”Debt”. a play by Leslie Mildiner which has just finished running in Vancouver. One reviewer said, “This production has all the elements of a very good musical...”
Butler is resting up at home this week, gathering steam to conquer Lillooet this Friday (7:30 pm at the Masonic Hall on Taylor Road).
He is bringing his wild sense of humour and a batch of clever satirical songs sure to put us on the mark! Students are eligible for a discount. Tickets are available at Created by Design, KC Health and Gifts, and at the door.
