Thumbtack in tire
A male made a complaint to the Lytton RCMP after discovering a thumbtack that had been stuck into the sidewall of one of his car’s tires. The car was parked on Third Street.
Anyone with information regarding this senseless act of mischief is being asked to contact the Lytton RCMP at 250-455-2225.
Lumber truck flips
A transport truck hauling lumber near the Hilltop Fruit Stand in Spences Bridge flipped over, resulting in lumber being strewn across both lanes of Highway 1.
Fortunately, the driver escaped without serious injury and no other motorists became involved with the wreck. The driver was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for driving without due care and attention.
January 15
Man refuses to leave pub
The staff of the Lytton Pub phoned the police after a patron entered the establishment intoxicated and refused to leave.
The RCMP was forced to arrest the man after he refused to follow their instruction.
He was held in police custody until sober and charged under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act for being intoxicated in a public place.
January 17
Quarrelling couple separates
Lytton RCMP attended a residence on Alonzo Way after a couple was heard in the midst of a heated argument, concerning neighbours.
Police attended and encouraged the quarrelling couple to separate for the evening. Both parties complied.
January 18
Father and daughter crash on same highway
A woman travelling home to Lillooet after a late evening of work in Lytton had an unfortunate experience after she lost control of her vehicle on Highway 12.
The vehicle went off the road and rolled down a steep embankment, flipping several times. The woman was transported to the Lytton Medical Centre.
To pile further grief on the family, the father of the woman crashed his vehicle on the same highway after driving to Lytton to check on her well-being.
Black ice and dense fog were factors in both collisions. Both drivers escaped without serious injuries.
January 19
Two drinking arrests in as many days
A male was arrested on Main Street after he was found in a stupefied state as a result of excessive alcohol consumption.
After he spent the night in jail to sober up, he bragged to police that upon his release, he was going to get drunk again, though he promised to stay home.
Surprisingly, the man was arrested later that day once again on Main Street for causing a disturbance after he was found drunk.
January 22
Upset over breakup
Police attended Stein Valley Nlakapamux school after receiving a complaint of a young, distraught male who had been observed kicking inanimate objects and screaming like a wild animal.
Upon the arrival of the RCMP, staff informed police they worried the male was going to act violently towards them/
Police located the 12-year-old boy lying face down on the ground crying and hyperventilating.
He was detained without incident and transferred by paramedics to the Lytton Medical Centre for further evaluation. The male was apparently upset after breaking up with his girlfriend.
January 23
Axe chase between brothers
Lytton RCMP was dispatched to the Stein Valley subdivision on North Spencer Road after receiving a complaint that two brothers were observed fighting each other outside.
Police attended and spoke to the men, who were in their early 20s. However, both refused to co-operate with police.
According to a witness observation, one of the men was chasing his brother around the neighbourhood with an axe. The incident remains under investigation.
Roadblock leads to manhunt
A manhunt began in Spences Bridge after a male evaded police when he took off from a traffic stop on Highway 1.
He sped away from the RCMP Traffic Services member, accelerating to speeds well over 160 kilometres per hour.
The man crashed his car and took flight with his passenger running into the hills in the darkness of the night.
An extensive search by RCMP members from Lytton, Ashcroft, and Merritt, and Police Dog Services turned up the passenger in a field near Hilltop Fruit Stand, thanks to a tip from a resident.
The suspected driver, who had multiple warrants for his arrest, managed to escape apprehension.
